Rejoice, star that causest the Sun to appear…

“Rejoice, Thou through whom joy will shine forth:

Rejoice, Thou through whom the curse will cease!

Rejoice, recall of fallen Adam:

Rejoice, redemption of the tears of Eve!

Rejoice, height inaccessible to human thoughts:

Rejoice, depth indiscernible even for the eyes of angels!

Rejoice, for Thou art the throne of the King:

Rejoice, for Thou bearest Him Who beareth all!

Rejoice, star that causest the Sun to appear:

Rejoice, womb of the Divine Incanation!

Rejoice, Thou through whom creation is renewed:

Rejoice, Thou through whom we worship the Creator!

Rejoice, O Bride Unwedded!”

Something Father Mark told me came to mind today, on the Afterfeast of the Nativity of Our Lady, the Theotokos. Panagia, our most glorious Mary, is as the moon… as she reflects the light and the glory of the spiritual Sun. How wonderful are Your works O Lord, in Wisdom You have created them all!

May it come naturally to honor the Theotokos each time I see the moon gracing the night sky. May she keep us in the Pokrov as we remember her. May she smile warmly upon us as we draw nearer to her Son.

Magnify, O my soul, the glorious Theotokos…
